Why are my leaves turning pale or losing their color?
Most likely cause:
Pale leaves or fading color can be caused by nutrient deficiency (especially nitrogen or iron), too much light bleaching the leaves, or old potting soil that no longer holds enough nutrients. Variegated plants may also lose color in low light.
How to fix:
- Start by checking light—if the plant is in harsh direct sun, move it to bright, indirect light.
- Use a balanced, water‑soluble houseplant fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer), following the label instructions.
- If the plant has been in the same soil for years, consider repotting into fresh potting mix.
- For variegated plants, ensure they’re getting enough bright, indirect light to maintain their patterns.
